Statue of Augustus the Strong

The Golden Horseman is an equestrian monument to the Elector of Saxony, the Polish king Augustus the Strong. The ruler is depicted in the guise of Caesar and Roman armor, on a powerful Lipitsian stallion.

The Golden Horseman statue is located on the Neustädter Markt in Dresden. The monument depicts Augustus the Strong, riding a horse, in Roman armor. The horse and Augustus mounted on it are directed towards the Polish kingdom.

Initially, the monument was gilded by fire, but during the restoration in 1956, the craftsmen used another method - gilding from a leaf. The sculpture of Augustus the Strong was made of copper by the famous craftsman Ludwig. Wiedemann Later, a golden amalgam was placed on top of the statue. The discovery of the Golden Horseman took place in 1736.

After the war, in 1953, the monument was restored by the sculptor Fleming Walter
